Mole Concept - A mole is an amount unit similar to familiar units like pair, dozen, gross, etc. It provides a specific measure of the number of atoms or molecules in a bulk sample of matter. A mole is defined as the amount of substance containing the same number of discrete entities (atoms, molecules, ions, etc.
Atomic Structure - Atoms consist of three basic particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons. The nucleus (center) of the atom contains the protons (positively charged) and the neutrons (no charge). The outermost regions of the atom are called electron shells and contain the electrons (negatively charged).
Ionic Equilibrium - In Ionic equilibrium, the ionic substance dissociates into their ions in polar solvents. The ions formed are always in equilibrium with its undissociated solute in the solution.
Chemical Equilibrium - Chemical equilibrium is a state in which the rate of the forward reaction equals the rate of the backward reaction. In other words, there is no net change in concentrations of reactants and products. This kind of equilibrium is also called dynamic equilibrium.
Thermodynamics - Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with heat, work, and temperature, and their relation to energy, radiation, and physical properties of matter.
Redox Reactions - An oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two species. An oxidation-reduction reaction is any chemical reaction in which the oxidation number of a molecule, atom, or ion changes by gaining or losing an electron.
Kinetic Theory of Gases - The model, called the kinetic theory of gases, assumes that the molecules are very small relative to the distance between molecules. The molecules are in constant, random motion and frequently collide with each other and with the walls of any container. ... The higher the temperature, the greater the motion.
Chemical Bonding - A chemical bond is a lasting attraction between atoms, ions or molecules that enables the formation of chemical compounds. The bond may result from the electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions as in ionic bonds or through the sharing of electrons as in covalent bonds.
Periodic Table - The periodic table, also known as the periodic table of elements, is a tabular display of the chemical elements, which are arranged by atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties. The structure of the table shows periodic trends.
S Block Elements - The s-block elements of the Periodic Table are those in which the last electron enters the outermost s-orbital. ... Hydrogen and its Compounds - Hydrogen is a lighter-than-air, flammable, diatomic gas. It is colorless and only sparingly soluble in solvents. ... Isomerisms - Isomerism is the phenomenon in which more than one compounds have the same chemical formula but different chemical structures. Chemical compounds that have identical chemical formulae but differ in properties and the arrangement of atoms in the molecule are called isomers
Reaction Mechanisms - A reaction mechanism is the sequence of elementary steps by which a chemical reaction occurs. A reaction that occurs in two or more elementary steps is called a multistep or complex reaction. A reaction intermediate is a chemical species that is formed in one elementary step and consumed in a subsequent step.
Hydrocarbons - A hydrocarbon is an organic chemical compound composed exclusively of hydrogen and carbon atoms. Hydrocarbons are naturally-occurring compounds and form the basis of crude oil, natural gas, coal, and other important energy sources
Environmental Chemistry - Environmental chemistry is the scientific study of the chemical and biochemical phenomena that occur in natural places. It should not be confused with green chemistry, which seeks to reduce potential pollution at its source.
